Sonography is the art of reading digital images that are produced by sound bouncing off the organs and tissues of the body showing different areas of the body. Most of the time Sonography is used on pregnant women to see a developing fetus in the womb and to check the growth and development of a fetus throughout a pregnancy. Sonography is also used to see tissue and organs in the body and can be very helpful when doctors are trying to diagnose a health problem. Reading a sonogram is tricky and only trained technicians are really qualified to read a sonogram. A Sonography degree can train you to be a Sonographer. Once you have a Sonography degree and are certified you can choose to work in Obstetrics reading sonograms for pregnant women or you can choose to go into one of the advanced areas of Sonography. Radiology and Sonography are closely related and some Sonography degree programs require you to have at least a two year degree or a certificate in Radiology before you can apply for a Sonography degree program.
